Our War Game

“Our War Game” (or “Children’s War Game” according to the opening) is the second Digimon movie.  It focuses on what happens to the main characters about a year after the first season ends.  Oddly, the older characters seem to have aged a bit more then Takeru (this may just be due to the higher quality animation, but I also find it odd that Taichi and Sora are dating).

This one sets the tone for the rest of the movies.  Something bad happens that the main characters have to stop.  It’s destroyed, and never mentioned in any part of the actual show.  This is a bit unfortunate, as this contains the first appearance  of Omnimon, the combined form of War Greymon and Metal Garurumon (who is only seen again in the fourth movie).

This one is twice as long as the first, but it is still a bit short.  This means we have to establish the bad guy and get rid of him in only a forty minute span.  Because of that, you don’t really get to see much of the main characters, and even less of their Digimon.  Anyone that knows me knows what a huge Angemon fan I am, and it was a bit of a bummer to see Patamon get cock-blocked by Diaboromon.    We DO get Omnimon though, who is pretty badass in his own right.  Using War Greymon and Metal Garurumon as his left and right hands, he pulls out a couple of really nice (albeit predictable) attacks.

There’s one or two good scenes, but this one was probably my favorite:

That's right. They stop him with the old Windows hourglass. Seriously.

All in all, I’d say it was ok.  There were a few really funny moments, and Omnimon was pretty neat, but I really would have liked to see more of the characters.  Let’s get serious here, who actually liked Taichi and Yamato that much anyway?
